Wachusite.com is a free directory I created for the community in which I currently live. I often find myself searching for deals and events in my area. The choices are the local papers and of course craigslist. The local papers websites are difficult to navigate and charge high fee’s to post a classified ad or announcement making it difficult for residents to get out the word. Then there is craigslist. A great site structure, easy to use but also lots of junk and frankly its quite ugly.
So I decided, why not create a simple, free, and nice looking local directory?
Wachusite.com is a play on words. Its targeted towards the Wachusett region in Central Massachusetts, I added the word “site” to create the catchy term.
Wachusite.com is easy to use. Its a directory structured website where anyone can register as a user and begin to add their own “posts” as soon as they have verified themselves with a quick email notification. Once logged in, the user can access our front-end form to add a posting in a number of different categories such as classifieds, events, announcements, promotions, automotive, free stuff, pets, services, etc.
Postings are published immediately and sent to the latest position on the front page. Wachusite.com is also integrated with both Twitter and Facebook to share each new post with followers. I love this feature because local residents can get the postings via the media stream they like to use. On facebook or twitter often? That’s how you get your news.
